Hours of fun to be found at Family Fest
It’s the 12th Annual Family Fest on Sunday January 29th from 10am to 2pm in the Gibraltar Room. This free, community event is enjoyed by hundreds of visitors each year. It helps raise awareness about the importance of literacy and early childhood development. The event is hosted by Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy and is made possible with support from members of the Early Childhood Development Network and sponsorship from Success by 6 and Children First.
Family Fest encourages literacy as a family activity. Every child receives at least one new book and each Family receives a reusable Family Fest bag containing literacy related information and activities, so the fun can continue at home. We have puppet shows, story-telling, music, crafts and the famous book walk. You can read a book with Sir Read A Lot and try lots of different activities that are hosted by the community organizations and local businesses who make Family Fest so amazing. Kit and Kaboodle will be back again and Realm of Toys will be joining the fun this year. The Child Development Centre will be hosting remote control car racing and the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society will be bringing the waste wise worms.
Thanks to Daybreak Rotary, we will have a well-stocked children’s book swap table. A great family literacy activity is to encourage and help your children to choose books they have finished with and are ready to swap for different ones.
There is something for children of all ages to enjoy, so come on out and help us celebrate families, literacy and lifelong learning.
