English as a Second Language Programs
CCPL supports adults with English as a second language in 100 Mile House and surrounding communities.
Those with English as a Second Language are encouraged to improve their English language skills by attending the weekly Conversation Circles held Tuesday mornings. Participants discuss current issues, participate in presentations by community members, enjoy cooking classes, become familiar with the community through field trips and complete grammar worksheets. Participants enjoy a less structured learning environment while making new friends and becoming more comfortable within their new community.
The One-to-One Tutoring Program provides a more structured learning environment which matches a learner with a volunteer tutor. The weekly meetings are learner directed and focus on developing the language skills most important to the learner. Areas of interest can be: improving listening, speaking, reading or writing skills; increasing vocabulary; and learning new job specific terms.
Classes are also available, as needed, to assist those preparing to take an English Language test for immigration or citizenship purposes.
